| + | The Story of Margaretta was an interesting read. Being written by a woman, it was obvious the emphasis on the benefits of education for women (children) as shown by the appraisal of Margaretta’s accomplishments, however it was put through the lens of men and so many of the benefits of the education was described in terms such as making her more valuable, more amiable, a pleasing and instruction companion (134) and her accomplishments as an accountant (135) all of which a man would most likely applause. The rant about eradicating conceit also would seem to be a male point of view, for fear of a woman knowing too much might cause her to have too large of an idea about her general place within society. All in all though, it is often times almost obvious that this was written by a woman due to her extreme knowledge of sewing accomplishments, her fashion skills, and her overall accomplishments as a lady and all that it entails that I don’t know a man would possess such understanding of the subject. – Elyse Lawrence | ||
