I haven't studied Native Americans in any of my college history classes but I remember studying them in high school. We focused on cultural practices (longhouses versus teepees essentially). We also talked about unfair treaties and the encroachment of Anglos on Indian land. We did NOT study anything about boarding schools or the various other attempts made by the Anglos to assimilate, convert, or get rid of the Native Americans. | + | While I learned about Native Americans in high school, most of my recent knowledge is from Professor Moon's American West class I am taking this semester. We have talked a little about the boarding school experience and Native American life in general. Other than that my Native American knowledge is very limited. I am also very sympathetic towards Native American history but I do also realize that I really don't know much about it. -- Kari W. | ||
