| + | I am just venturing a guess, but perhaps it has to to with power. Having sex with a black female slave gave a white man a sense of power, either over the woman herself or over her loved ones. It may have just been an expected role of a white slave-holder. After the emancipation proclamation, the black people were no longer under direct control of the whites. Sexual relations between a black person and a white person was no longer primarily about power, but about something that was unthinkable... intimacy and love. - Celia | ||
