| + | Phil has a point, not all of Johnnie's points were practical, but I just liked her. I liked her spirit and she made some very good arguments against the common myths of welfare, such as "having babies for profit is a lie that only men could make up and only men could believe." Unfortunately like most things, the people that are quick to condemn it are the people who don't understand it. And as Johnnie said, most of the people at that time in the country receiving welfare were women. Johnnie also addressed a large perception in this country that people on welfare are lazy, and they should just get a job and stop free riding off the hard earned money of other Americans, but as she effectively pointed out, sometimes, they just can't. Sometimes you just need a little help, and as a citizen, it is the government's job to ensure every citizen's welfare, no pun intended. ~Juliann Boyles | ||
