What really interested me about this piece was how Murray raised the point that her white friends said "that they suffer just as much from 'Jane Crow' as I do."  I understand that women of all races were put down, especially after the war effort, so as to return to the middle class domestic ideal.  But were white women really that oblivious to the fact that black women were fourth class citizens and had an even harder time?  I know it sounds like a stupid question but it still blows my mind that white women never recognized how much "better off" they were than black women. --Kelly Wuyscik
