After all these years, the government still felt that there was an ‘Indian Problem” that needed to be resolved.  The only way they believed to settle it was by removing the Indians from their reservations. Did the government think that just because they were not holding the Native Americans at gun point meant that it was not seen as another Trail of Tears? –Ashley Scutari

I honestly think that the government knew that what they were doing was wrong but at the same time they thought they were doing the Indians a favor by making life easier for them, getting them jobs, better living conditions (of course they really weren't).  You have to remember at this time the government wasn't too thrilled with people beign different, they wanted everyone to be the same to fit some sort of ideal. -- Kellye Sorber
