| + | Elizabeth and Michelle mentioned in their posts how alone Joanna Rubin was in her private ordeal. Abortion is not just a physical ordeal. Rubin says that she was okay with her decision in aborting a child, but this is the type of life event that she is less likely to share and will probably conceal. At the time, abortion was illegal in the states and carried a stigma that would have probably alienated her and prevented her seeking emotional support from professionals and other women. Abortion doesn't just take a fetus away, it creates a void and replaces it with guilt and shame.--LisaM | ||
I thought it was interesting to read Joanna Rubin's account of her unplanned pregnancy. My question is if JOanna knew the risks of sleeping with her boyfriend and she didn't see a future with him then why take those huge risks sleeping with him? It's not like she was uneducated as far as the risks and unsafety of abortions.
