I found the letters written to the Roosevelts rather intriguing. They showed a wide range of people with a variety of problems. I will say that the 12 year old girl is rather oblivious to the times. I know she's only 12, but really - at that age you should be picking up on what's going on around you. What interested me the most was the fact that the authors of these letters obviously thought that Elanor could personally help them. I know that the Roosevelts encouraged letter writing to themselves, but was there an perception throughout the country that the Roosevelts themselves could help  out individuals? Did people stop to think that if they were writing the Roosevelts for help, that other people might be to, and that no matter how wealthy or kind or caring they were, that it would be impossible for them to personally help everyone? Was there a vastly different relationship between the President and First Lady and the populace during this era, or was it just desperate times? - Sarah
