The various stories about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire were all very heartbreaking, especially the one where the girl lost her fiance'.  Let's face it, factory life for men and women in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was a hellish existence in most cases.  However, one would have to acknowledge that it was in many cases worse for women due to their lack of power at that time.  They were more easily exploited than men; thus leading to all-female industries and factories in which men were the bosses and foremans and women were the production workers.  - Phil N.

Yet again I found that the articles in MAW moved me more than any other articles. In particular "WOrking Women Write the Jewish Daily Forward" got to me. The first story made me angry because of the horrible treatment that she had to endure because of her need for the job. I don't know if I would have been able to continue working in an area where the boss made unwelcome sexual advances. But even more so the 2nd story about the young girl whose bridegroom was killed in the Triangle Factory Fire touched me. Not only did she loose her love and have to deal with another man's advances, but she lost him when he went in to save others. He had been safe but then put himself back into danger. This document just showed how hard these girls actually had it. -Elizabeth Frank
