He compared and contrasted to English society just because that's all he knew, but he seemed to truly study them before forming opinions on what he thought was right or wrong or different. | + | Roger Williams seems to have an unbiased view of the Native Americans. The English were harsh to the Native Americans upon arrival because they wanted to enslave them. However, Williams wrote of the Native Americans being kind, always willing to give any food they have if a stranger walks in. " It is a strange truth, that a man shall generally find more free entertainment and refreshing amongst these Barbarians, then amongst thousands that call themselves Christians..." I wonder how different the relationship between the Native Americans and English would have been if the English hadn't been i such a race for profit. Perhaps they could have actually had a peaceful relationship and maybe some of the problems that still exist today would be nonexistent. --Courtney Newcomb | ||
