The whole song is meant to inspire and encourage young girls to do whatever work they want to do when they grow up regardless of whether that work has been seen primarily as "man's work" in the past or present. The song fails to promote work that is seen as primarily "women's work" as an equally empowering, or acceptable, or noble job. The song should say, "Can a woman be a mother, yes she can", or "Can a woman be a teacher, yes she can." And that brings up another point as far as equality goes. Today, because women do fly planes, are doctors, and even do run nations (still not ours as much): what about the prejudice against men who take on roles that have traditionally been roles held by been?
