After reading Joseph Brant's response to the question of Indian vs. White Civilization, i began thinking about how the different influences of the society made them no uniquely different. The indian society never had the mentatlity of individuality over the group while, the american society came over with that society. My question is then, after the colonists settled, was there an increase in crime and "individual-minded" behavior among the native american societies? Or did they always did they always find the things that the colonists to be innately evil?- Dani Jones

In the comparison of Indians vs. White Civilizations by Joseph Brant, he says that he would rather die of Indian torture than to live a year in a colonist prison.  He compares the two civilizations saying that there are not many villains and no robberies among the Indians and their crimes are impartially punished by judges.  The Whites have horrible prisons that they keep people in but most of the people are in jail for debt which cannot be repaid if they are not working.  He also talks about the Whites calling themselves Christians, but then treating their own people so badly.  I think this passage is important because it shows a man who has experienced both cultures and points out that they Indians may not be as savage as the Whites make them out to be.  ~Renee Rosser
