Is our surprise at the controversy another affect of our perceptions of the war? I for one have always felt I'm a more chipper, happy, vibrant person in the springtime, while melancholy and nostalgia tend to hit in the winter. I think there might be some truth to the idea of seasonal depression. I certainly wouldn't want to live in, say, the parts of Alaska that have a month or two of consecutive darkness every year.
